One of the Non-indigenous deciduous species found in the historic Niavaran Garden is the Golden Rain Tree, scientifically known as Koelreuteria paniculata. This ornamental tree, native to Southeast Asia, was planted in several locations within the garden, especially along the entrance driveway, after the Islamic Revolution.Botanical Characteristics: The Golden Rain Tree belongs to the Sapindaceae family and is favored in landscaping due to its high resistance to drought, pests, and diseases, as well as its attractive appearance and pleasant shade. Typically, this tree grows up to 7 meters tall, featuring a dome-shaped crown and pinnate, deeply serrated leaves ranging from 15 to 40 centimeters in length. Its yellow flowers, each with four petals, bloom in clusters at the tips of branches. The fruit is a three-lobed inflated capsule measuring 3 to 6 centimeters in length and 2 to 4 centimeters in width. Initially green, the fruits turn orange to pink in autumn. Inside, numerous brown to black seeds, 5 to 8 millimeters in diameter, are contained. The Golden Rain Tree is deciduous, shedding its leaves in the fall.Environmental Requirements and Care: This tree thrives in full sunlight and requires low to moderate watering. It is relatively easy to maintain with low sensitivity to environmental conditions. The Golden Rain Tree is tolerant of drought, poor soils, and air pollution, and adapts well to various soil types as long as they have good drainage.Propagation Method: Propagation is primarily done by seeds.Research and Compilation: Masoumeh RezvanfarMs in Natural Resources Engineering
